This spherical ceramic sculpture is cast from my own ears, wrapped continuously around the surface. Used wax earplugs — collected from nights I sought refuge from sound — fill the ears, forming a double casting that preserves both the inner and outer contours of my body.
Ear Lids reflects on our conflicted relationship with the outside world. Unlike our eyes, we cannot close our ears — we remain exposed to sound, even as we sometimes cannot endure it and long to shield ourselves. The work explores our vulnerability, our desire for quiet, and the connection between body, senses, and environment.
